What Will it Take to Stop Genocide in Darfur? is an unprecedented national discussion on how to end the genocide in Darfur. More than 35 universities participated in this live webcast from the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington, D.C.

This provocative program features a panel of experts discussing Darfur, including Pulitzer Prize winning author Samantha Power; Ambassador Michael Ranneberger, Senior State Department Representative for Sudan; Mudawi Ibrahim Adam, Sudanese human rights defender; and award-winning journalist Jon Sawyer.

Darfur’s ongoing genocide has left hundreds of thousands dead and millions homeless. Estimates of the current death toll range from 100,000 to as high as 400,000 and nearly 2 million Darfurians have been driven from their homes, their villages torched and their property stolen by the military. Thousands of refugees are dying each month from the effects of inadequate food, water, health care, and shelter in a harsh desert.

A surge in campus organizing in the United States over the past two years has mobilized thousands of students to action against the horrific death and destruction.  Students from more than 35 universities have started STAND chapters, an acronym for Students Taking Action Now: Darfur.  The tech-savvy student movement raises awareness about Darfur by using webcasts, podcasts and now, Internet2, which deploys advanced network applications and technologies for research and higher education.

The event, part of a nationwide student movement to end the genocide in Sudan, led up to the April 30 Rally to Stop Genocide being held in Washington, D.C., and other cities across the country.
